Can Free Speech Analytics Software Overcome the 3 Barriers to Adoption?

The speech analytics software market is growing rapidly, even in this recessionary market. Despite this fact, many organizations are not launching speech analytics programs. Even though they greatly desire the publicized benefits of:

  • Improving First Call Resolution Rates
  • Eliminating agent-handled volume
  • Reducing talk times
  • Reducing hold-time
  • Reducing transfers
  • Overall cost to operate reductions
  • Improving the Customer Experience
  • Improving Sales Performance

So why are they sitting this one out? When I have conversations with call center managers and call center directors, the same three reasons are heard over and again. The top three barriers I hear are:

1.   The software is very expensive.

2.   We have a huge lack of internal IT resources.

3.   We have a large gap between the internal skills possessed and internal skills needed.

  • The three barriers to entry that you list are dead on. However, “free” speech analytics software in not the answer at this point. It is important to realize that speech analytics is similar to any other enterprise grade software. There is some initial investment required to set it up in a way that is customized for your businesses processes and therefore maximizes ROI. Even with other enterprise software, like CRM, “free” offerings almost always require more company resources to deploy and have less functionality.

    In terms of the barriers to adoption, 2011 will continue to bring speech analytics costs down by providing more sophisticated, out of the box, and cloud-based offerings. As the technology becomes more widely used there will be more training resources. For now, you should ask your vendor about the training & support they provide to maximize your ROI.

      Thank you so much for your comment. You are right and that’s exactly why we are eliminating barriers using a full-feature cloud-based solution for our Speech BI (Business Intelligence) Managed services. You can even add post-call survey to the speech analytics software. The service requires no ongoing IT support and since no user training is needed vendor training and support isn’t a problem. This is important to most, because companies are finding the special skills to be successful with a program is found to be extremely difficult. I also agree that 2011 will be exciting…and busy.
